WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 16, 2013) – The Stonehill College baseball team scored three ninth-inning runs to earn a comeback victory over the Pace University Setters in a non-conference matchup on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.

Freshman Christian Baglini (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame High) went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the way for Stonehill. Sophomore Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) recorded two hits and two RBIs for the Skyhawk, while junior Billy Karalis (Pawtucket, R.I./Bishop Feehan) recorded a hit and RBI of his own.

Senior Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (N.Y.)) went four-for-four to pace the setters. Martineson also posted an RBI for Pace. Junior Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) knocked in two RBIs and posted a hit of his own on the afternoon.

Sophomore Ryan Rougeot (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) pitched four innings of relief and collected the win for Stonehill. Rougeot struck out two batters and gave up just one hit in the outing. John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) got the start and pitched five innings for the Skyhawks. The freshman gave up nine hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out two for Stonehill.

Senior Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Setpinac) was charged with the loss for the Setters. Byrne yielded three earned runs on four hits and a walk. Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, Y.Y./Goshen) went 7.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks. Chudy struck out nine batters in his third appearance of the year.

Pace got an early first inning run to take a 1-0 advantage. Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) opened the inning with a lead-off single. He advanced to third following a groundout and a wild pitch. Martneson then knocked in Galasso with a single to give the Setters a one-run lead.

Stonehill tied the game in the third inning. Following walks by Eric Schneider (Camarillo, Calif./St. Bonaventure) and Matt Anziano (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown), Baglini advanced the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Hoyt followed Baglini and knocked in Schneider with a sacrifice fly to tie the score at one.

The Setters responded in the bottom of the inning. Martineson collected his second hit of the day when he singled. James Pjura (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) followed with a single of his own, advancing Martineson to third. After Pjura made it to second on a wild pitch, Wukitsch knocked in the pair with a two-RBI single to make it 3-1 Setters.

After the teams traded runs in the fifth, the Skyhawks looked to gain ground in the seventh inning, trailing 4-2. With Anziano on first after a single, Hoyt tripled down the right field line to cut the Setters' lead to one run.

The Skyhawks fought back to take the lead in the top of the ninth. Following a Brian Campbell (Fraklin, Mass./Mount Saint Charles) single and an Anziano walk, Baglini roped a two-RBI triple to center field to give the Skyhawks the lead. Karalis padded the Stonehill advantage with an RBI single, that turned out to be the winning run, bringing home Baglini for a 6-4 lead.

The Setters got one back in the ninth, but Rougeot shut the door and sealed the victory for Stonehill.

Stonehill (12-5, 0-0 NE-10) and Pace (7-5, 0-0 NE-10) meet again tomorrow afternoon at 11:00 am.
