EASTON, Mass. (September 12, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Daniel Gordon (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) was named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) men's cross country Rookie of the Week by the conference earlier today.
In his first collegiate race last Saturday, Gordon cruised to a second place finish overall in the Shacklette Invitational covering the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes and 58.5 seconds to help lead Stonehill to the team title. He finished first overall among all freshman in the meet, edging out his closest rookie competitor by seven and a half seconds.
The freshman harrier comes to Stonehill College after a standout four-year career at Plymouth North High School where he earned three Atlantic Coast League (ACL) cross country championships, two Division 3 Eastern Massachusetts two-mile titles, one Division 3 State two-mile championship and ten ACL All-Star selections.
Gordon also holds school records in the one-mile run, 5-kilometers, two-mile and 4x800 meters relay and was also selected as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Student-Athlete of the Month earlier this year in February.
The Skyhawks, ranked 20th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll, return to action on Friday, September 16 at the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, Ind.) at 3:30 p.m.
