Freshman setter has piled up seven NE-10 weekly awards this season
EASTON, Mass. (October 11, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie of the Week for the fifth-consecutive week by the league office, it was announced earlier today.
Iverson facilitated a Skyhawks offense that went 2-1 overall averaging 11.92 assists per set and 2.58 digs per set in three matches played (12 sets). In a 3-2 loss to Dowling, Iverson dished out 56 assists, compiled nine digs and notched three kills. Iverson also tallied 49 assists in a 3-1 win over Southern New Hampshire to go along with seven kills, two service aces and three blocks total on the week.
Through six reporting periods, Iverson now has seven awards total – the most among any athlete in the NE-10 – earning Setter of the Week accolades twice (Sept. 7 and Sept. 20) in addition to her five Rookie of the Week awards (Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27 and Oct. 4).
As of October 9, Iverson ranks 43rd overall among all NCAA Division II setters in the country and fifth among all freshman setters averaging 10.22 assists per set on the season. In the NE-10, Iverson leads all setters with 736 assists total – 152 ahead of second place in the conference – and is the only player at the position to average double-figures in assists per set.
Iverson has played in every set for Stonehill so far this season – 72 sets/20 matches – joining teammates Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) and Mary Nelson (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) atop the NE-10 leaderboard for sets played this fall.
The freshman setter has also contributed in other areas on the stat sheet compiling 48 kills, 24 service aces, 151 digs (2.10 per set), and 15 blocks (four solo).
The Skyhawks (17-3, 5-0 NE-10) host American International College tonight (October, 11) in NE-10 action on Purple-Out Merkert Gym Night at 7 p.m.
