EASTON, Mass. (September 5, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked eighth in the Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II preseason poll, posted its second-straight win with a 6-0 triumph over Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference field hockey matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Senior All-American Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) matched her career-high with three goals and added an assist as she played a role in four of Stonehill's six goals on the afternoon. With her seven points, she moves into sole possession of third place on Stonehill's career points list with 82 - passing Kelly Latendresse, who posted 77 points from 2003-06. Ladino's 25 career goals are good for a tie for fifth all-time.

Junior Courtney Foley (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) posted a goal and assist for Stonehill, who also got goals from senior Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and junior Michaela Deasy (North Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth).


Junior Courtney Osier made two first half saves to preserve her sixth career shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) made two first half saves to preserve Stonehill's first shutout of the season (her sixth career). Sophomore Rachel Baxter (Cumberland, R.I./Cumberland) stopped four shots (all first half) in goal for Franklin Pierce as the Skyhawks finished with a 13-3 advantage in shots for the game.

Stonehill jumped in front just 3:06 into the contest when Hourihan scored her first goal of the season by one-timing a cross from Ladino from the right side past Baxter. The Skyhawks doubled their lead 1:25 before halftime with an unassisted strike from five yards out by Ladino after a long carry down the right side.

Stonehill dominated the second half, scoring four goals in a 19-minute span and finishing the half with a 6-1 shots advantage. Ladino put the hosts up three with another unassisted goal on a low angle shot from the right side 13:05 into the half. Eight and a half minutes later Deasy knocked a loose ball on the left side for her first goal of the season at 56:35. Foley scored on a one-time near the left post when a drive from sophomore Laura Menke (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) was tipped to her by senior Stephanie Kott (Rutland, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) at 60:14. Ladino rounded out the scoring and her second career hat trick at the 67:08 mark off a feed from Foley.

Stonehill (2-2, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it visits Assumption College at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks are back home on Thursday to host No. 2 University of Massachusetts Lowell at 7 p.m. Franklin Pierce (1-2, 0-0 NE-10) visits Merrimack College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
