Skyhawks post 18th-straight NE-10 dual match victory

EASTON, Mass. (March 27, 2010) – Stonehill College ran its dual match winning streak against Northeast-10 opponents to 18 matches with an 8-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in a Conference women's tennis action in the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Junior Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) led the double-winners for Stonehill, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles after combining with sophomore Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) for an 8-3 win at second doubles.

Freshmen Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were also double-winners for the Skyhawks. Frost clinched the team's victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at fifth singles, after combining with senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) for an 8-3 win at first singles. Haedrich rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 win at sixth singles after her and doubles partner, freshman Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), posted an 8-3 win at third doubles as the Skyhawks swept all three doubles matches to key the win.

Junior Deahna Giguere (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) picked up the lone point for Saint Michael's with a 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles.

Sophomore Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) kept her unbeaten collegiate career intact by rallying for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 12-10 nail biter at fourth singles. She is now 26-0 in singles play in her second collegiate season.

Stonehill (9-1, 6-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow when it takes part in the Wheaton College Invitational starting at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks next dual match is Wednesday with a key matchup at Southern New Hampshire University at 3 p.m. Their next home match is April 7 when they host rival Bentley University at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (7-6, 6-2 NE-10) visits Bentley tomorrow at 10 a.m.
