Women's Indoor Track and Field Takes Second In Season Opener At Suffolk Relays

ROXBURY, Mass. (December 3, 2022)- The Stonehill College women's indoor track team kicked off their 2022-23 season at the Suffolk Relays and finished in second place (138 points) at the Reggie Lewis Center. Merrimack took home first place with a 170-point finish and after the Skyhawks, fellow Division I opponent, UMass Lowell came in third with 86 points. Brandeis and UMass Boston rounded out the top five in fourth (52 points) and fifth place (38 points) respectively.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Allison Moloney had a strong collegiate debut for the Skyhawks as the freshman notched a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.34 seconds. She also collected another top three finish in the 60-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in second place at 8.04 seconds. Moloney ended up qualifying for the race after she came in second in the prelims at 8.10 seconds.
  • Along with Moloney, Kaytlin Encarnacao was also one of Stonehill's four first-place finishers Saturday as the junior took home first in the 400-meter dash at 59.11 seconds. One of the other Stonehill top finishers was Victoria Lombardi as she grabbed first in the 5,000-meter run at 18:55.33. 
  • The Skyhawks' final first-place finisher was Caroline Surrette who won in the 800-meter with a time of 2:34.08.

Other Performances

  • In the field events, Madison Gunderway paced the squad in the weighted throw event with a toss of 12.12 meters (39' 9.25"). Meanwhile, freshman, Darla Jagrosse had a solid impact her in debut as she competed in shotput and had a throw of 11.76 meters (38' 7").
  • The Skyhawks had their strongest showing in the one mile as four runners grabbed spots within the top 10. Cross-Country standout, Jordan Malloy, led the squad with a second-place finish as she crossed the line at 5:18.74, and not far behind was Emma Lawrence in fourth at 5:19.97. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 for Stonehill was freshman Emily Young (5:21.52) and Caitlin Swanson (5:24.98) in sixth and eighth place respectively. For Swanson, her time marked a new personal record which topped her previous best of 5:36.52.
  • Madison Rousseau set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles when the sophomore finished in second place at 9.12 seconds. 
  • Right behind Lombardi in the 5,000-meter, Rebecca Erhard followed up behind her with a second-place finish (19:35.01).
  • Stonehill saw three top-10 finishers in the triple jump event as freshman, Kaia Eder led the Purple and White with a leap of 10.84 meters (35' 6.75"). Not far behind her were fellow freshmen, Emily Ostrowski (6th place-9.61 meters, 31' 6.5") and Jade Roycroft (seventh place-9.45 meters, 31' 0").
  • During the long jump, two Skyhawks grabbed top-10 spots led by Abigail Larsson's new personal record of 5.31 meters (17' 5.25") for a third-place finish. Eder finished a few spots behind Larsson in sixth place with a leap of 5.19 meters (35' 6.75"). Other Skyhawks that competed in the event was Haley Lightbody who came in 14th (4.66 meters, 15' 3.5"), Ostrowski in 19th (4.36 meters, 14' 3.75"), and Roycroft in 22nd (4.19 meters, 13' 9").
  • In the 400-meter, freshman Grace Tyrrell grabbed a top-10 spot (ninth) with a time of 1:03.91.
  • After Moloney in the 200-meter, Stonehill saw three other runners in Rousseau, Aneka Andrews, and Leah Baxter earn 14th place (27.16 seconds), 18th place (27.26 seconds), and 21st place (27.58 seconds) respectively.

Stonehill will have some much-deserved time off before competing at their next meet on Sunday, January 15 when the squad competes in the UMass Amherst Winter Opener at the Track At New Balance in Boston, Mass.
