Westborough, Mass., freshman earns first weekly honor after season-best performance at #23 New Haven
EASTON, Mass. (October 3, 2011) – Stonehill College freshman linebacker Michael Hogan (Westborough, Mass./St. John's of Shrewsbury) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for football by the league office today.
Hogan posted a season-best and game-high 11 tackles, including 0.5 sacks for a loss of four yards, for Stonehill in Saturday's setback at No. 23-ranked University of New Haven. His four solo tackles matched a team-high for the game and also matched his season best established against American International College in week four. Hogan assisted on the Skyhawks lone sack of the day with sophomore Patrick Rooney (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) that halted the Chargers opening drive, allowing Stonehill's offense to stake out an early 6-0 lead after a touchdown on its first possession.
Hogan ranks fourth for Stonehill with 33 tackles (13 solo) in his first collegiate season. He has also posted two quarterback hurries, a half sack, a pass breakup and fumble recovery while playing all five games in his rookie season. Hogan ranks 14th among NE-10 leaders for total tackles and is tied for fourth with his fumble recovery.
In addition to his 11 tackle performance on Saturday, Hogan registered six stops with a pass breakup and fumble recovery against Bentley University on September 16. He posted five tackles (two solo) in his collegiate debut against Curry College in week one.
Stonehill (1-4, 0-3 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) affiliate Bryant University, a former Northeast-10 member, in Smithfield, R.I., at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home the following Saturday, October 15, to host Pace University for an NE-10 clash as part of Family Weekend at Stonehill at 1 p.m.
