Chose leads Skyhawks with career-high 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists

EASTON, Mass. (January 5, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked eighth in the most recent D2SIDA East Region poll, closed out its season-long five-game homestand with an 81-51 victory over LIU Post in non-conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium this afternoon.
Sophomore Owen Chose led Stonehill to its sixth-straight win, and eighth over the last nine, with career-highs of 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. He canned 8-of-15 shots from the floor, including 5-for-11 from three-point distance. Junior Will Moreton logged a double-double for the third-straight game and fifth time over the last six contests, with 16 points (ten first half) and ten rebounds, connecting on 4-of-9 three-pointers and adding three assists.
Freshman Connor Walsh posted a season-high 11 points in 17-minutes off the bench, hitting all five of his shots from the floor, including a three-pointer, while classmate Andrew Sims came within a point of his second double-double of the year with nine points and ten rebounds, while chipping in three assists in 24-minutes off the bench for the Skyhawks.

Freshman Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor led LIU Post with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting, and nine rebounds. Classmate Seth Goumba added 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots for the Pioneers.
Stonehill doubled up LIU Post in the first half, carrying a 38-19 lead into halftime, after scoring the final 12 points of the opening frame to expand on a seven-point lead (26-19) with 6:38 to play. Moreton and freshman Adam Freese drained three-pointers to spark the Skyhawks run to close out the half.
Stonehill stretched the lead to 21 points with two free throws from senior Joel Berroa early in the second half. The teams traded baskets until the Skyhawks scored nine straight, including four by Chose and five from Sims to take a 28-point lead (55-27) with 12:18 remaining. Stonehill extended its lead to 30 (62-32) on a Walsh jumper with 9:25 to go, and then hit 32 (71-39) on a Chose triple with 5:32 left.
Stonehill (10-4, 4-3 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday, when it returns to Northeast-10 Conference play with a cross-divisional matchup at American International College at 7:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return to Merkert Gym on Wednesday, January 16, to host the College of Saint Rose at 7:30 p.m. LIU Post (0-11, 0-4 ECC) visits University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
