Mendham, New Jersey, senior caps career with first All-America award

EASTON, Mass. (May 22, 2014) – Stonehill College senior midfielder Kelsey Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) has earned third team All-America honors by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as announced this week.

Shannahan, who earned All-America honors for the first time in her career, is the 30th IWLCA All-American in the history of the Stonehill women's lacrosse program. The IWLCA will honor its All-America selections at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday, June 7, at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Shannahan, a two-time All-Northeast-10 selection who earned first team All-North Region honors for the first time this spring, earns her first All-America award after starting all 19 games for Stonehill this season and leading the team with 63 points (9th NE-10) and 50 goals (8th) to go with 13 assists. She also recorded 34 ground balls, 35 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers, notching at least a point in 44 straight games dating back to her freshman season. Shannahan scored a career-high eight goals in Stonehill's 17-5 win over Southern New Hampshire University on April 2. She added a season-high seven points with five goals and two assists in a key North Region win at Dowling College on April 19.

Shannahan, a Division II and NE-10 All-Rookie team selection as a freshman, started 57 of the 58 games she has played over her career at Stonehill and posted 118 goals and 41 assists for 159 points, while contributing 112 ground balls, 77 draw controls and 60 caused turnovers. Her 41 caused turnovers as a freshman is the third-highest single season total in program history, while her 59 ground balls that season rank eighth all-time. Shannahan has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status four semesters at the College and Athletic Director's Honor Roll once.
