RINDGE, New Hampshire (September 26, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, ranked No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches was unable to get past No. 19 Franklin Pierce University, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play after scoring the first goal of the game Wednesday night at Sodexo Field.
Stonehill acted early in the game, as Henry took a power move down the left wing and bypassed a Franklin Pierce defender at the top of the 18-yard box put the ball over the goalkeepers head for a 1-0 advantage at 2:40 in the first half. The Skyhawks' defense was able to fend off the Ravens multiple times in the first half, including a through ball that was sent to the right side but was broken up just before the 18-yard box in the 13th minute.
In back-to-back minutes, Franklin Pierce struck the ball from roughly 16 yards out, but it grazed the outside of the net for a wide shot, while Stonehill took a shot from the top of the box on the right side for one of the Skyhawks two shots on goal in the 21st and 22nd minute, respectively. The second half just got more competitive as the time went on, as eight fouls were called in the first and 10 total fouls were called in the second frame.
