Thompson records her sixth goal of the season
Guidi recorded her first-collegiate assist
ALBANY, New York (October 5, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team, who is ranked No. 4 in this week's United Soccer Coaches' East Regional poll, fell in overtime, 2-1, to No. 10 the College of Saint Rose, who is also ranked No. 1 in the East Region, in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon.
Stonehill's (7-2-1, 5-1-1 NE10) sophomore Camryn Thompson recorded her sixth goal of the season and 15th goal of her career, while Hannah Guidi tallied her first-collegiate assist, while senior Kaitlin Brown registered seven saves.
Starting in the 11th minute of the game, Brown saw a series of four shots from Saint Rose in a span of five minutes, where she stopped two and saw the other two sail over the crossbar. Stonehill saw their own series of four shots in the 22nd minute of the game, as Thompson saw the first show on goal. The Skyhawks were edged in shots 8-7, as they were called for eight fouls to the Golden Knights' three in the first half.
In the second half, Stonehill held the advantage in shots over Saint Rose, 7-5. In the 51st minute, Stonehill got off one of its' six corner kicks in the game, as Jenna Nasuti trickled in a shot that was saved by Marika Laurendeau from inside the six-yard box for the first shot on goal in the second half. Late in the frame, Bella MacNeil tossed in a quick and short throw down the left sideline. Guidi crossed the ball into the box for Thompson to head the ball home for her sixth goal of the season and 15th of her career at 82:07. Four minutes later, Nina Predanic played the ball up the middle of the field and split defenders as she played the ball off another defender just outside the six-yard box to tie the game at one, 1-1 at 86:27.
With just over a minute remaining in the first overtime period, Saint Rose tallied their fifth corner kick and Stonehill was able to clear it out about 25 yards, but the Golden Knights put the ball back in and Deanna Trongone played it off a header sending it to the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box for the overtime win at 98:12.
Stonehill returns home for their Purple & White Game as they host Bentley University on Tuesday, October 8 with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
