Ormesher won her qualifying match and is into the main draw for the singles championship
Two Skyhawks doubles pairings also earn first round wins
FLUSHING, N.Y. (September 14, 2019) – Stonehill College sophomore Samantha Ormesher has joined three of her teammates in the women's singles main draw at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Ormesher received a first round bye in Friday's women's singles qualifiers and defeated Macha Mourier from Post University, 8-3 to join senior Alexandra Vo, junior Isabelle Porter and freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia in the main draw of the women's singles championship that will get started Saturday morning.
Freshman Steffi Antao breezed to an 8-0 win in her first round qualifier against Sabrina Blasi-Smith from Wilmington (Del.) University, but was edged by Concordia (N.Y.) College's Emma Rosberg, 8-6 in the second round. Sophomore Emma Markaryan fell in her second round qualifier as well.
The women's doubles championship also got underway late last night, with two of Stonehill's three pairings moving on to the second round today. Senior Annelise Howick and Solorzano Valencia opened with an 8-6 win over Araceli Bel Alexandri and Gabriella Sciarrotta from Queens (N.Y.) College, while Porter and Antao rolled by Marta Perez Fernandez and Brooke Fernandez from Le Moyne College, 8-1. Ormesher and senior Caroline Ray were edged by Julia Chappell and Maria Monje from Assumption, 9-7 in their first round tie.
