EASTON, Mass. (February 21, 2014) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked second in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional Computer Rankings, has been picked to finish first in the 2014 Northeast-10 Indoor Track and Field Championship Coaches' Poll, the league announced yesterday. Stonehill received four first-place votes and 75 total votes, seven more than Southern Connecticut State University and the University of New Haven, which tied for second place with 68 tallies.

Stonehill will be attempting to earn its first Northeast-10 championship in program history, as the Skyhawks have had several close calls in recent years. Stonehill finished third last year and second in 2011-12, behind only the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Senior Chelsea Bishop (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) will be looking to earn All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season, as she placed second at last year's NE-10 Championship in the 3000-meter run. Bishop is seeded first in the 5000-meter run with her NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 17:32.93. Junior Brittany Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) is seeded third in the same event with a time of 17:59.95.

Bishop and Venturo are also among four Skyhawks competing in the 3000-meter run. Bishop is seeded first with her time of 10:12.87, while Venturo is fifth. Seniors Emily Regan (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson) and Sarah Biggers (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Lakeland) are seeded third and seventh, respectively.

Junior Maria Curit (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) is seeded third in the 400-meter dash with her time of 56.07 seconds. Curit set the school and meet record mark on February 7th at the Boston University Valentine Invitational, and her time is the 16th-fastest nationally. The junior will be aiming for her second career All-Conference performance in the 400-meter dash, as she placed second as a freshman in 2011-12. Curit is also seeded fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9.75 inches. She has competed in this event the past two NE-10 Championships, placing first overall as a freshman.

Junior Sarah Wilson (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) owns the top time in the NE-10 this year in the 800-meter run, with a program record mark of 2:13.05. Wilson earned the provisional qualifying time last weekend in her event win at the Tufts Cupid Challenge. This will mark the third consecutive year that Wilson has competed in the 800-meter run at the NE-10 Championship. She registered an All-Conference performance as a freshman in 2011-12 with her second place finish, before placing fourth last year.

Sophomore Jordan Gray (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) is seeded first in the 500-meter run with her time of 1:15.33. Gray placed sixth at the NE-10 Championship last year in the 400-meter dash. She is also set to compete in the 200-meter dash along with Curit.

Senior Elizabeth LaRegina (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and junior Brianna Venturo (Taunton, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) are seeded second and third in the 1-mile run, respectively. LaRegina's provisional qualifying time of 4:57.91 currently ranks as the 21st-fastest nationally.

Stonehill also figures to have strong performances from its three relay teams. The 4000-meter distance medley relay is seeded first with a time of 11:44.72, which is good for fourth nationally. The 4x400 meter relay team is seeded third with its provisional qualifying time of 3:51.48, while the 4x800 meter relay is seeded first with a 9:27.94 mark.

Senior Meaghan Olin (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) will be competing in the pole vault for the fourth consecutive year, as she is seeded fifth with a height of nine feet, 4.25 inches. She placed fourth in consecutive years as a freshman and sophomore, before finishing third last year.

Senior Elizabeth LaRegina is seeded second in the 1-mile run with a time of 4:57.91.

Senior Angelina Comei (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) is seeded sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 2.75 inches, while she also is set to compete in the high jump.

Sophomore Trisha Pierson (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) and freshman Nicole Gilcoine (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) are seeded third and fifth, respectively, in the shot put. Pierson's throw of 38 feet, 6.25 inches at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet on February 1st set a new program record.

Stonehill will have three representatives in the 60-meter hurdles, led by senior Katie Polakowski (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), who currently owns the fifth-fastest time in the Northeast-10, at 9.03 seconds. Sophomore Jeana Esernio (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and junior Lauren Hanlon (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) will also be competing. Polakowski placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles at the NE-10 Championships as a sophomore and junior, while Esernio finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles at last season's NE-10 Championship.
