Molloy Victorious Over Volleyball in Three Sets

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 5, 2019) – The Stonehill College volleyball team was unable to get past Molloy College as the Lions won its fourth-straight match in three-straight sets, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium in non-league play with set scores of 23-25, 26-28, and 14-25.

Stonehill's (8-5) Sophia Poveda and Abby Remick led the Skyhawks with 10 kills apiece, while Poveda also tallied nine digs. Rachel Dunlavy and Carly Russell each chipped in double-digit digs, for 17 and 11 digs respectively.

Stonehill saw its highest hitting percentage of the match in game one, 0.205, but Molloy just outhit the Skyhawks with their 0.289 hitting clip. Stonehill edged Molloy in the first set for their first lead of the game 11-8, behind an 8-2 rally. The Lions fought back to take on a three-point advantage, 17-14, and the Skyhawks responded by tying the set three times before Molloy took set one, 25-23.

The second set included 15 tied scores, including the final one 26-26, before the Lions took game two 28-26.

Stonehill's only lead of the third game came with a one-point advantage, 6-5, as Molloy took over from there and with their 0.308 hitting percentage finished the game with a 11-1 rally to win 25-14 after the Skyhawks came within one, 14-13.

Stonehill will continue its three-game homestand with a Northeast-10 Conference battle against Bentley University on Saturday, October 11 with a start time of 7:00 p.m. at Merkert Gymnasium.
