Buonfiglio leads Skyhawks to a second-place finish
DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 17, 2016) – The Stonehill College women's cross country team, ranked 13th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, tallied a second-place finish overall out of 37 teams comprised of Division I, II and III teams Saturday morning at the 44th annual UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
The Skyhawks scored 111 points for its second-place mark, while Brandeis University won the meet with 99 points. Trinity College (137), College of Holy Cross (159), and Connecticut College (220) rounded out the top five at the invitational.
The women matched their result from 2012 when they also took second totaling 78 points.
Senior Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) was the first Skyhawk to cross the line finishing fifth among the field of 275. Buonfiglio totaled a time of 18:20.74 in the five-kilometer course. Freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) was the next Stonehill runner, across the finish with a time of 18:41.02 taking 12th. Junior Abby Hersom (Rockland/Maine/Oceanside) finished the course 25th with a time of 19:05.48, while sophomore Isabel Baker (Charleston, R.I./Chariho) and Anna Devitto (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) rounded out the five Skyhawks with a 28th- and 41st-place finish and times of 19:11.56 and 19:21.3.
Stonehill will take some time off as it prepares for the Lehigh Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University, which will take place on Saturday, October 1.
