BOSTON,
Mass. (October 10, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked ninth
in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, posted a fifth place
finish at the New England Championships, hosted by the New England
Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association, at Franklin Park
today.
Stonehill posted a team score of
235 for fifth place out of 47 programs from NCAA Divisions I, II
and III. The University of Massachusetts Lowell, ranked
12th nationally in
Division II, won the team title with a score of 93, followed by the
University of Massachusetts (116), Providence College (171), the
University of New Hampshire (181) and Stonehill.
American International's
Glaruis Rop (Eldoret, Kenya) won for the third
time this season, taking the individual crown by completing the
8-kilometer course in 24:22.
Junior Patrick Fullerton
(Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) led Stonehill with a time of
25:12 to finish 17th out of 320 competitors. Classmate
Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) took
33rd in 25:27, followed by sophomore Stephen
Polito (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) in
34th with a time of 25:29. All seven Skyhawk runners
finished within a span of 1:15.
Stonehill returns to action in two
weeks when it takes part in the Northeast-10 Conference
Championships, hosted by Saint Michael's College in Colchester,
Vt., on Sunday, October 25.
