EVANSVILLE, Ind. (November
21, 2009) - Stonehill College, ranked 11th in
the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, turned in a
21st place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division II
Championships, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana, this
afternoon.
Stonehill turned in a team score of
474 to finish 21st out of 24 programs that qualified for
the National Championships. Adams State College posted a team score
of 23 points to capture its second-straight National Championship
(seventh overall), while Western State University (86pts) was
second and Colorado University of Mines (153) took third. Adams
State senior Reuben Mwei led his team to the title with the men's
individual championship as he completed the ten-kilometer course in
30:27.8.
Sophomore Stephen Polito
(Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) led Stonehill with a
62nd-place finish (out of 182 overall) as he completed
the 10K in 33:00.5 - finishing 48 positions better than his NCAA
Championships debut in 2008. Junior Pat Fullerton
(Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) took 105th place in
33:56.2, while classmate Kevin Gill (Brockton,
Mass./Brockton) posted a time of 34:03.4 for
111th overall.
Stonehill concludes its season
after capturing its fifth Northeast-10 Conference championships and
earning its seventh NCAA Championships appearance after placing
second at the NCAA East Regional two weeks ago.
