#9 Stonehill Clinches NCAA II Nationals Berth
Gill leads Skyhawks to
second-place team finish with his fourth-place run
BOSTON, Mass. (November 8,
2009) - The Stonehill College men's cross country team,
ranked ninth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, clinched a
spot at the upcoming NCAA Division II Championships with a second
place finish at the East Regional, hosted by the University of
Massachusetts Lowell at Franklin Park this afternoon.

Stonehill will compete at the NCAA
Division II Championships, hosted by the University of Southern
Indiana, in Evansville, Ind., on Saturday, November 21. The
Skyhawks will be joined by the 22nd-ranked Stonehill
women who captured the regional title to advance to the nationals.
Stonehill was edged out by UMass
Lowell for the regional championship as the River Hawks finished
with 43 points with all five scoring runners turning in All-Region
performances. The Skyhawks posted 67 points,
with three All-Region performances.
Bentley University placed third, while Adelphi University and
American International College rounded out the top five. The
Northeast-10 had the top six team finishers. AIC's Glarious
Rop (Eldoret, Kenya) won the individual title with a time
of 30:15.9 over the five-mile course.
Junior Kevin Gill
(Brockton, Mass./Brockton) finished fourth out of 180
runners overall to lead three All-Region performances for the
Skyhawks with a time of 31:18.6. Senior Josh Andrews
(Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) took eighth in 32:06.8,
while junior Patrick Fullerton (Bradford,
Mass./Haverhill) placed ninth in 32:10.6 to both earn
All-Region accolades.
Sophomore Stephen Polito
(Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) finished
18th in 32:34.6 for Stonehill.
