SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September
4, 2009) - The Stonehill College men's cross country team,
ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll
and first in the East Region, opened its 2009 season with a strong
individual showings at the Bryant University Invitational this
afternoon. No team scores were counted in the non-scoring event.
Junior Kevin Gill
(Brockton, Mass./Brockton) led the Stonehill contingent
with a time of 16:42.02 over the 5K course to place second overall
out of 66-runners from ten teams at the event. Gill finished less
than seven seconds behind race winner Joseph Poulsen from Southern
Connecticut State University.
Sophomore Stephen Polito
(Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) placed fourth overall
for the Skyhawks with a time of 16:48.46, while freshman
Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) finished
11th with a time of 17:02.81 in his collegiate debut.
Stonehill is back in action next
Saturday, September 12, when it participates in the Trinity College
Invitational at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn.
