Pilz leads Skyhawks with
71st-place finish out of 387
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (October 1,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked 19th in
this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, turned in a
28th place finish out of 42 programs that competed in
the Gold Race of the 2010 Lehigh-Brooks-Paul Short Run, hosted by
Lehigh University, today.
Stonehill finished the event with
758 points, while the University of Virginia took the team title
with 132 points. The Skyhawks placed third among NCAA Division II
programs behind 12th-place Lock Haven University (413
points) and 14th-place High Point University (461).
Liberty University senior Sam Chelanga won the individual title by
completing the eight-kilometer course in 23:34.
Stonehill senior captain Daniel
Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) led Stonehill with a
71st place finish out of 387 competitors with his time
of 25:03. Junior Stephen Polito
(Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) finished
107th in 25:13, while senior Patrick
Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) took
137th in 25:24.
Stonehill returns to action next
Saturday when it opens its championship season at the New England
Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass., at 1:30
p.m.
