Pilz leads Skyhawks to
second-straight victory with third place finish
HAMDEN, Conn. (September
18, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked
19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll, won for
the second-straight week, this time turning in a first place finish
at the Quinnipiac Invitational at the QU cross country course this
afternoon.
Stonehill topped host Quinnipiac in
what was essentially a head-to-head race with Yale University
having just four runners compete at the event. The Skyhawks posted
20 points, while Quinnipiac finished with 37. Yale senior
Chris Scavone completed the eight-kilometer course
in 26:23 to take first place overall.
Senior co-captain Daniel
Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) led Stonehill to the
win with a third place finish overall, completing the course in
27:03. Sophomore Samuel Spencer
(Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) led a pack of three-straight
Skyhawks with a sixth place finish in 27:26. He was followed
closely by freshmen Trent
Fontanella (Pelham, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and
Jonathan Foster
(Westport, Conn./Staples) in seventh and eighth,
respectively with identical times of 27:38. Sophomore Timothy
Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) rounded out the
Stonehill scoring runners in 11th overall in 27:47.
Stonehill is off until Friday,
October 1, when it participates in the 37th annual
Lehigh Paul Short Run, in Bethlehem, Pa., at 11 a.m.
