Women's Track & Field Hosts Holy Cross for Dual Meet

Mason ran a personal-best time in the 800-meter run, one of four Skyhawk first-place marks

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 18, 2021) – The Stonehill College women's track and field, in its second outdoor meet of the year, hosted the College of Holy Cross for a dual meet Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders totaled 126 points to the Skyhawks 36. 

The Skyhawks saw four first-place finishes in the meet, including junior Claire Mason, senior Casey Gannon, senior Sophia Anderle, and junior Krista Stracqualursi.

Highlights:

  • Stracqualursi competed in the discus, shot put, and hammer throws, as she placed first, third and fourth, respectively. With her first-place mark in the discus, she threw the apparatus a mark of 38.16m (125-feet, 2-inch) on her fourth throw. Her third-place finish in the shot put was with a distance of 11.79m (38-feet, 8.25-inch) on her fifth throw, and her fourth-place mark in the hammer throw was with a personal best mark of 35.04m (114-feet, 11-inch) on her fourth throw.
  • Mason, who competed in the 800-meter run clocked in a personal best time of 2:18.11, taking first place, less than a second faster than the second-place Holy Cross competitor.
  • In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Anderle ran a time of 11:51.14, her first go at the event this season.
  • Gannon competed in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, taking first and second, respectively. She clocked in a time of 15.18-seconds in the 100-meter hurdles for first place, while running a time of 1:05.24 in the 400-meter hurdles, good for second.
  • Senior Alexandra Sexton finished third in the pole vault with a height of 3.20m (10-feet, 6-inch), followed by Haley Lightbody clearing 3.05m (10-feet), for fourth place.
  • Mason, Sexton, Fiona Jordan, and Elizabeth Marshall competed in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking in a time of 4:18.04 and placing third. Jordan led off the relay, followed by Mason, then Marshall, and concluded with Sexton running the anchor leg.
  • Jordan, who also competed in the 400-meter run, placed first in the second section with a time of 1:03.89. This time put her sixth out of the 11 runners.
  • Senior Kathleen Giusti, who cleared a height of 1.62m (5-feet, 3.75-inch) in the high jump on her second attempt of that height, was the runner-up behind a senior from Holy Cross, who cleared that height on her first attempt.
  • Junior Abigail Creamer ran in the 100-meter sprint, clocking in a time of 13.45-seconds, taking fourth overall. She also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.98-seconds.
  • Besides Gannon and Creamer, freshman Cassidy Becker and junior Savanna Macaluso helped Stonehill sweep the 100-meter hurdles. Becker finished third with a time of 16.04-seconds, while Macaluso followed with a time of 16.23-seconds.

Other Performances:

  • Marshall and Caroline Surrette took home fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Marshall ran the event in 2:23.82, while Surrette, in her second-collegiate meet clocked in a time of 2:24.03.
  • Victoria Lombardi was the only Skyhawk to finish in the top-five of the 1500-meter run, running it in 4:57.50, taking fourth place.
  • In the 5000-meter run, junior Rebecca Erhard ran a time of 19:19.09, finishing fifth overall in her first meet of the season.

Stonehill is scheduled to return to the track for 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 6-7.
