Barry records three of Skyhawks nine event wins for the afternoon

BABSON PARK, Mass. (November 11, 2023) – Stonehill College produced nine event wins in posting a 133-129 dual meet victory over Babson College at Morse Pool this afternoon.

Sophomore Kristy Barry led Stonehill's nine event wins with three of her own. She started with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 2:02.35, adding a win in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:32.57. She capped her day by winning the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best 2:13.51.

Senior Sydney Stockwell, who entered the weekend ranked No. 1 in the Northeast Conference for the 100-yard backstroke, excelled in the backstroke events today, sweeping the two races again. She started with a first-place finish in the 100-back in 1:01.87, with sophomore Mazy Karuzis second in 1:03.30. Stockwell and Karuzis took the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke as well, with Stockwell winning in 2:16.75 and Karuzis clocking in at a season-best 2:18.22. Stockwell also added a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.68.

Freshman Grace Idowu continued the impressive start to her collegiate career with two sprint freestyle wins. She started with a first-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke in 25.48-seconds, while sophomore Isabel Nelson was third in a season-best 26.74. Idowu followed that up with her first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.59-seconds.

Barry, Stockwell and Idowu were also part of Stonehill's 400-yard medley relay, along with junior Jami Hepburn, that took first place in 4:10.64. Stockwell swam the lead backstroke leg, followed by Hepburn for the breaststroke, Barry the butterfly and then Idowu on the freestyle anchor leg.

Sophomore Azia Koser won the 1000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 11:23.78 – leading a trio of Babson entries by nearly seven seconds. She also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:19.96 and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best 1:02.68.

Idowu and Karuzis also swam the first two legs of Stonehill's 200-yard freestyle relay that finished second in 1:45.52 – 0.25-seconds ahead of a Babson relay that clinched the dual meet win. Sophomore Taylor Belanger and Nelson followed up with the third and anchor legs for the Skyhawks as Nelson rallied with a strong second-25 to catch up and out touch the Babson relay and clinch four more points.          

More Results:

  • Belanger finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:11.80, while Hepburn was third in 1:12.00 and senior Maddie Conley was fourth in 1:18.00.
  • Hepburn added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:44.58, while senior Morgan Gangi was fifth in a season-best 2:49.06.
  • Senior Katie Keating finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:21.34 and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.59.
  • Nelson took fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 58.55-seconds, while Conley placed sixth in 1:02.77.
  • Freshman Isabella Rodriguez placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in the first event of her collegiate career with a time of 2:08.19. Classmate Sherri Danforth finished sixth in 2:19.18.
