CANTON, Mass. (September 23, 2024) – Sophomore
Carol Pignato posted a pair of rounds in the 70s and is tied for 13
th overall to lead the way for Stonehill College in its season-opening tournament at the Red Bandanna Intercollegiate, hosted by Boston College, on the 6,137-yard, par-72 layout at Blue Hills Country Club today.
Pignato opened the tournament with a six-over-par 78 that matched her collegiate best this morning and then followed that up with a five-over career-low 77 in the second round this afternoon. She carded an impressive seven birdies today, including a career-best four in the first round. Pignato played both nines at 39 this morning, posting birdies on the par-4 fifth hole, par-5 eighth, par-4 15
th and par-5 18
th hole. She followed that up with birdies on the par-3 seventh, par-5 ninth and the 15
th hole for a second time this afternoon.
All five Stonehill golfers improved their scores in this afternoon's second round with the team moving up one spot in the team standings to 11
th place with a two-round score of 648 (329-319) after a ten stroke improvement by the Skyhawks this afternoon. Host Boston College holds a commanding 31-stroke lead atop the team standings with a score of 587 (287-300), followed by Quinnipiac University in second (315-303=618) and Merrimack College in third (313-307=620). The Skyhawks are just two-strokes behind fellow Northeast Conference member LIU (327-319=646) and five shots shy of Siena College (318-325=643) for ninth place. Stonehill leads Fairfield University (328-325=653), Monmouth College (329-326=655), College of the Holy Cross (335-343=678) and Bryant University (343-343=686) heading into Tuesday's third round.
BC holds the top three spots on the individual leaderboard with Emily Boehrer (-2) a stroke ahead of teammate Cynthia Zhang (-1) as the lone golfers under par today. The duo is five strokes ahead of fellow Eagle Angel Lin (+4) in third place.

- Sophomore Helen Brodahl trimmed three strokes off her first round score, which featured three-straight birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th holes, and is tied for 37th in the field of 84 golfers with a two-round score of 161 (82-79). She finished the day with five birdies in all, adding a pair in the second round on the ninth and 12th holes.
- Freshman Zoe Miller made a three shot improvement from the morning to the afternoon in her first collegiate tournament and is tied for 50th at 165 (84-81). She carded her first collegiate birdie on the par-5 18th hole and registered five-consecutive pars during her round this morning. Miller followed that up with nine more pars this afternoon.
- Sophomore Kenna Roman is tied for 64th at 169 (85-84), posting a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole in the first round.
- Junior Jaelyn DeBoise showed the biggest improvement for Stonehill between the first and second rounds, cutting eight shots off her first round 90 with a round of 82 this afternoon and is tied for 73rd overall at 172.

The Red Bandanna Intercollegiate concludes with third round play tomorrow. Stonehill is scheduled to tee off on the tenth hold starting at 9:42 a.m.
