PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 19, 2025) – The Stonehill College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests at Brown University on Wednesday, 4-3 and 8-0, at the Brown Softball Field.
GAME 1 – Brown 4 (11-6, 0-0 Ivy), Stonehill 3 (6-12, 0-3 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Senior
Shannon Conte (Amesbury, Mass.) scored the first run of the game, making her way home from first base on a passed ball and a throwing error by the catcher in the top of the second inning. In the top of the third, the Skyhawks added one more run after sophomore
Piper Hofmann (Windermere, Fla.) led off the inning with a triple, scoring on a bunt single from junior
Natalie Bottiglieri (Massapequa, N.Y.).
The next two innings were scoreless as junior
Lauren Donovan (Marblehead, Mass.) took a shutout into the fifth inning for the Skyhawks before giving up a pair of runs to the Bears on an RBI single and a throwing error by the catcher. Stonehill broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth when junior
Jessica Brill (Natick, Mass.) doubled to left field to drive in freshman
Grace Conaway (St. Paul Park, Minn.).
Brown scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead, tallying two singles and a pair of walks with a sacrifice fly in the inning as the Bears took their first advantage of the game. Conte drove in a run in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-4, but Brown pulled out the win as the Skyhawks threatened with the tying run on second base.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Senior Isabella Therrien (Auburn, Mass.) and Conte each went 2-4 at the plate while Conte drove in a run and scored.
- Donovan got the start for the Skyhawks, falling to 1-2 on the year after giving up six hits, five runs (three earned), and two walks.
- Lily Berlinger went 2-2 for the Bears out of the ninth spot in the batting order, plating two RBI and scoring once.
GAME 2 – Brown 8 (12-6, 0-0 Ivy), Stonehill 0 (6-13, 0-3 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brown jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning after the first three batters reached base, capped off by a bases-loaded triple for
Amanda Deng. The Bears had a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second but were held scoreless until the sixth inning when
Laurel Moody blasted a solo homer to end the game early, 8-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) came out of the bullpen, going 4 IP, allowing five hits and just one run with a walk and a strikeout. Sullivan also went 1-3 at the plate.
- Senior Emily Nardelli (North Attleboro, Mass.) had her first multi-hit game of the season, the seventh of her career, going 2-2 with a pair of singles.
- Therrien went 1-2, as she now has a hit in three straight games.
- Brown's Amanda Deng went 2-3 with a triple and a single, driving in three runs while scoring once.
- Macy Borowski picked up the win in the circle for the Bears, throwing a complete game shutout with five hits and three walks allowed, striking out seven.
