LOWELL, Mass. (April 23, 2025) – The Stonehill College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests at River View Field against UMass Lowell on Wednesday, falling in the first game, 2-1, before losing the second, 10-0.
GAME 1 – UMass Lowell 2 (14-23, 5-9 AE), Stonehill 1 (12-31, 3-12 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Lowell took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after putting runners on the corners, leading to a River Hawk coming in to score after a throw down to second base on a steal attempt by the runner on first.
Sophomore
Piper Hofmann (Windermere, Fla.) tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side of the infield that drove in senior
Chloe Kelly (East Bridgewater, Mass.).
Both pitchers dominated as the score remained tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when the River Hawks broke the tie on a single up the middle that brought in a run from second base.
Stonehill was held scoreless for the remainder of the game as UMass Lowell hung on to the win, 2-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sophomore Alexa Hospodar (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) falls to 2-9 on the year despite an excellent performance in the circle for the Skyhawks, pitching a complete game, six innings, allowing five hits, two runs (one earned), while striking out four.
- Hospodar pitched her first complete game of the year and matched her season-high for strikeouts in a single game. She has allowed one run or less in three consecutive appearances.
- Sophomore Harper Sullivan (Glendale, Ariz.) had the lone extra-base hit for the Skyhawks, ripping a double in the sixth inning, while Hofmann and freshman Melanie Snyder (Howard Beach, N.Y.) had the other two base hits for Stonehill in the game.
- Freshman Grace Conaway (St. Paul Park, Minn.) knocked a pair of singles for her ninth multi-hit game of the season.
GAME 2 – UMass Lowell 10 (15-23, 5-9 AE), Stonehill 0 (12-32, 3-12 NEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The second game was all UMass Lowell as the River Hawks put together a complete performance, shutting out the Skyhawks, 10-0, in five innings.
UMass Lowell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before adding five runs in the second on five hits to take a 6-0 lead. The River Hawks pulled away with a bases-loaded double in the third that drove in three runs before a ground out to second brought home the 10th and final run of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sullivan and Kelly had the only hits for the Skyhawks, and sophomore Alex Sciarretto (Bristol, Conn.) falls to 2-10 in the circle this season.

- Stonehill softball hosts FDU this weekend at Fr. Gartland Field for a three-game, Northeast Conference series with game times and days still to be determined due to rain in the upcoming forecast. Senior Day and Coach Ken LeGrice Day will still go on as planned once dates and times are confirmed.
