FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Oct. 10, 2026) – The Stonehill football team controlled play on both sides of the ball in a 28-7 victory over Sacred Heart at Sikorsky Credit Union Field Saturday afternoon.
The Skyhawks close conference play 2-4 overall (1-0 NEC), while the Pioneers go to 2-4 (2-2 CAA).
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ma'Hkai Wilson recorded a Stonehill season-best12 tackles, with 2.0 tackles for a loss and 1.0 sack. Eric Miles made 10 stops and had 0.5 sacks.
- Trevon Baxter forced a fumble and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown. He also made four tackles and had a quarterback hurry.
- Mo Seide made his second interception of the season and broke up a pass.
- Stonehill's defense had 7.0 tackles for a loss, 3.0 sacks, four quarterback hurries and three pass breakups.
- Jack O'Connell was 13-of-23 for 134 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the ball five times for 40 yards and a rushing TD. O'Connell now ranks sixth in team history with 32 career touchdown passes and seventh with 3,649 career passing yards.
- Aidan Garrett ran the ball 16 times for 106 yards, marking the first time a Stonehill player surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark this season.
- Shane Eason had eight carries for 61 yards, including a six-yard TD.
- Logan Chenette punted the ball four times for a 44.0 average.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Late in the first quarter,
Shane Eason took a handoff from
Jack O'Connell and rushed to the left into the endzone to give the Skyhawks a 7-0 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the frame. The Skyhawks doubled its advantage to 14-0 when O'Connell called his own number and dashed for a 22-yard rush on 3
rd and 9 at the 3:12 mark of the second quarter.
Stonehill remained in control into the third when
Jaylin Baker caught a 21-yard pass from O'Connell to put the Skyhawks up, 21-0, at the 12:40 mark. Later in the third,
Trevon Baxter ripped the ball out of the hands of Sacred Heart running back Darius Chukwuemeka near the endzone and returned the fumble 98 yards for another Stonehill TD, 28-0, with 2:00 left in the frame.
The Pioneers cut into Stonehill's lead with a four-yard TD pass from Poochie Snyder to Dean Hangey with 12:51 remaining in the contest, 28-7.
