Alicea, Schoonmaker Slug First Career Homeruns as Softball Returns to NEC Play Against LIU

­­BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 21, 2026) – The Stonehill softball team returned to NEC action with a road doubleheader against LIU on Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks ended up dropping both games of the day.
 
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Juliana Alicea went 2-for-3 with a solo homerun in game one, her first of her collegiate career. 
  • Sophomore Sarah Taylor went 1-for-3 with an RBI double in the top of the third in game one.
  • Freshman Juli Murillo went 1-for-4 with an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the third inning.
  • Sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker recorded her first collegiate career homerun, a solo homerun in game two.
 
GAME 1: LIU 7, STONEHILL 3
While the Sharks were quick to the score with a run in the bottom of the first, Skyhawks responded. Freshman shortstop Juli Murillo turned a taylor made double play to end the bottom of the second, then in the top of third came through dropping a double down the left field line to plate Grace Conaway with the game's tying run.


 
Moments later, sophomore Sarah Taylor took a Sarah Wall offering the other way into the right centerfield gap to score Murillo and the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead. Freshman Juliana Alicea added to the Stonehill lead launching her first collegiate career homerun in the top of the fourth.
 
Stonehill starter Alexa Hospodar settled down and kept the Sharks off the board for the next three innings. But in the home half of the fifth the Sharks managed to get to the Skyhawks starter pushing across three runs to take a 4-3 lead. They added another three insurance runs in the sixth.
 
GAME 2: LIU 17, STONEHILL 1
Sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker gave Stonehill a quick 1-0 lead, slugging her first collegiate career homerun in the top of the fourth. It did not hold as the Sharks batted around in the home half and put up a crooked number to seal the sweep of the doubleheader.

Stonehill returns to the diamond tomorrow, March 22 for the third game of the three-game series with LIU. First pitch at noon.
