Allegra Valberg isin her second year as head coach of the equestrian program atStonehill College.
In Valberg's two seasons at thehelm, Stonehill finished in the top two of the IHSA Zone 1, Region4 standings both years, winning one regional championship. She saw18 riders qualify for regionals, 12 advance to the Zone 1Championships and four reach the IHSA National Championships.
Valberg guided Stonehill to theIHSA Zone 1, Region 4, Championship in 2011-12 by 22points. Ten Skyhawks qualified for the individual regionalchampionships, with seven advancing to the Zone 1 Championships andthree qualifying for IHSA Nationals in Raleigh, N.C. CassandraLorusso competed in the prestigious USEF/Cacchione Cup this spring,placing 19th in the national rider of the year competition afteralso placing fourth for individual open equitation over fences.Emily Dolan also earned an individual ribbon at nationals in 2012with a sixth place finish for individual intermediate equitation onthe flat.
Stonehill finished second inRegion 4 during her first season in 2010-11. Eight riders competedat the regional championships, with five reaching the Zone 1championships, where Diana Cabral was reserve champion for novicefences to earn a trip to IHSA Nationals in Lexington,Ky.
Valberg owns and has served as headtrainer at Ridgetop Farms, Inc., in Norfolk, Mass., for nine years.Prior to that, she was a trainer and barn manager at the Broad HillEquestrian Center in Holliston, Mass.
In her roles at Ridgetop Farms, sheis responsible for the equitation, hunter and jumper training ofover 70 students ages 5-60. Valberg is the founder and head coachof Ridgetop Equestrian Upper and Middle School IEA Teams, guidingthe Upper School Team to the Zone 1 championship for 2009-10. Shehas also qualified several riders, as well as both teams, for theIEA Nationals this past season. Valberg oversees all facets of farmmaintenance and supervises the care of approximately 30 horses.
Valberg is a 1997 graduate of MountHolyoke College, where she earned a degree in art history andanthropology. She was also a member ofthe Lyons rowing team.
