Springfield, Mass. - The Skyhawks exploded for
six goals, including two each from Erin Bazinet
(Charlton, Mass.) and Lauren Boyd (Sandwich,
Mass.), the most since an 8-0 win over Bentley last September
30th, en route to a commanding 6-2 win over host
American International on Tuesday evening.
Winners of two in a row, Stonehill is 4-1-2 in its last seven
contests, a stretch that has seen them outscore their opponents
17-6.
Bazinet opened the scoring with two goals five minutes apart in
the first portion of the game's first half. Freshman
Caitlin McEvily (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added her
second goal of the season in the 31st minute, bumping
the Stonehill advantage to 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets refused to go away however, scoring two goals
of their own - one in the waning minutes of the first half and the
other three minutes into the second to trim the lead to 3-2.
Stonehill closed the door on any thoughts of a comeback, as Boyd
banged home two scores and Ashley Bourne (Brockton, Mass.) netted
another to secure the win.
The shots for the match were close with the Skyhawks holding a
slight edge (22-21), while both Alex Eckhardt
(Marshfield, Mass.) and AIC goalkeeper, Kara Potts, turned away
seven shots.
Next up for the Skyhawks is a home match with Southern New
Hampshire on Saturday at 11 a.m. on Skyhawk Field.
