Easton, Mass - Freshman
Tyler Hebert (Rockland, Mass) scored two goals in
the second half to help Stonehill (3-7-1, 1-6) earn their first
Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season. The Bryant
Bulldogs (7-4-1, sixth place in the NE-10) suffered their second
straight loss; third in their last four games.
An outstanding defensive performance from goaltender
Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn) allowed
Stonehill to spread the Skyhawk offense and attack Bryant's
goal. Guerrini's eight save performance combined with his
effort at Franklin Pierce gives the Skyhawk sophomore 19 saves in
the past week.
After suffering a hand injury earlier this season, senior
captain Joey Silva (Brockton, Mass) made his
return to action midway through the first half. It did not
take long for his presences to be felt. Minutes after subbing
in, Silva took a pass from Shaun Keely (Woburn,
Mass) and floated a perfectly placed ball over Bryant goalkeeper,
Tom Madden.
Stonehill's one slip up came with minutes left in the first half
when Bryant's Mike Gargiulo and Sean
Kaukas executed a perfect give-and-go to slip a score past
Guerrini. The half ended in a 1-1 tie.
The second half was all Tyler Hebert. Hebert's first goal
came at 62:20. Bryant's goalie Madden deflected a shot from
Todd Shigo (Naples, Maine) into Hebert's
area. He banged it in off the post to give Stonehill the
lead, 2-1.
With time winding down, Hebert accepted a pass at midfield and
found himself in a two-on-one situation with teammate, Joe
Silva. Hebert faked a pass and nailed home his second goal of
the game to give Stonehill win.
The exciting win was Stonehill's first since their 1-0 victory over
Goldey-Beacom on September 8th. The Skyhawks will
hope to carry some momentum into their next game; a home match
Saturday against Saint Michael's at 2:30pm
