Easton, Mass. - The Skyhawk
men (3-7-2, 1-6-1 NE-10) tied the Saint Michael's Purple Knights
(9-2-2, 4-2-3 NE-10) Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.
Since losing three straight, the Stonehill squad has bounced
back with two strong performances in as many games; defeating
Bryant 3-1 last week and today tying Saint Michael's 1-1.
At half time the game did not look so promising for the
Skyhawks. Saint Michael's went ahead thanks to a last minute
score from Tim Wauren. Wauren's goal would be the only one
goaltender Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.)
would allow on his way to recording five saves on the day.
Skyhawk sophomore David Pohl (Weymouth, Mass.)
would answer Wauren's goal with one of his own; evening the score
at 1-1 midway through the second half. Pohl's fourth goal of the
season gives him the team lead.
With the score knotted at one, the two teams headed to
overtime. The defensive struggle continued, as each team
traded shots. At the end of the 15 minute period the score
remained the same, 1-1.
The game is another stepping stone for the men's team, which seems
to improve every week. The Skyhawks will hope to maintain
this level of intensity when they host Bloomfield, Monday at 4:00pm
