Flushing,
N.Y.. - Sophomore striker Dave
Pohl (Weymouth, Mass.) scored two goals as the Skyhawks
rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to post a 3-1 season-opening win
over host Queens College.
The Knights' Jesus Daniel Cano deflected in a shot only 3:51
into the contest to give Queens the early lead. Stonehill responded
with Pohl netting his first career goal, heading in a cross off an
assist from Dan Holley (Manorville, N.Y.), to knot
the score at 1-1.
The score remained the same until halfway through the second
half when Pohl and junior Kevin Halloran
(Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals a little more
than six minutes apart. Pohl's second score came off an assist from
senior Joey Silva (Brockton, Mass.), while
Halloran's tally came off a free kick when he headed in a pass from
sophomore Ryan Hess (Springfield, Mass.).
Sophomore netminder Brian Guerrini
(Glastonbury, Conn.) made 10 saves in goal for the Skyhawks,
including turning away a penalty shot in the 78th minute, while the
Queens duo of Brian Brabazon and Damian Skiba made seven stops.
Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, September 1 when it
hosts Northeast-10 rival LeMoyne at 11 a.m.
