North Easton, Mass. - Things changed almost in
an instant for the Stonehill men's soccer squad in its home opener
on Saturday. Seconds after sophomore Ben Irzyk
(Wakefield, R.I.) notched his first career goal, LeMoyne junior
Matt Peacheone scored the first of his three goals as the visiting
Dolphins knocked off the Skyhawks, 4-1 on Skyhawk Field.
Irzyk got things going when he took a pass from junior
Richard Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) and launched a
30-foot shot that was out of LeMoyne goalkeeper Steve White's
reach.
Peachone answered with his first goal two minutes later, which
was followed by Eric Macias' goal on a penalty kick at the 23
minute mark. The Skyhawks had a chance to even the score before
half but Thomas Hernon's (Mansfield, Mass.)
attempt hit the post with less than three minutes to play.
Peachone did all the scoring in the second half, netting goals
in the 62nd minute and the 67th, when he took
the rebound off of his own shot and deposited it in the back of the
net for his first career hat trick.
The Skyhawks, now 1-1, will look to return to the win column on
Wednesday when they travel to Merrimack to face Warriors at 7 p.m.
under the lights.
