Easton, Mass. - Two goals from
freshman Kirstie St. Martin (Lincoln, R.I.) led
Stonehill (4-4-2) to a 3-0 victory over Northeast-10 rival, Bentley
(7-4-1) on Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field. With the win,
Stonehill moves to 4-2-2 in the Conference as September comes to a
close.
Saturday's game marked the Skyhawks fourth straight win over
rival Bentley and gives seniors Meghan O'Brien
(Stow, Mass.), Erin McLaughlin (Norwood, Mass.),
Lauren Boyd (Sandwich, Mass.), Ashley
Bourne (Brockton, Mass.), Alex Eckhardt
(Marshfield, Mass.) and Hilary Eckhardt
(Marshfield, Mass.) a perfect record against the Falcons, a team
they outscored 17-2 over that span.
Eckhardt, aided by smothering defensive
performances from Marissa Bramwell (Norton, Mass.)
and Kelley Harper (Liverpool, N.Y.) claimed her
second shutout of the season.
Bentley's freshman goaltender, Kara Smith, who
turned away 12 shots, allowed all three goals. St. Martin's would
start the scoring ten minutes into the second half, nailing home a
goal from ten yards out. Minutes later Stonehill struck
again. Excellent communication between Michele
Norton (Abington, Mass.) and Boyd resulted in Boyd's
team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Norton earned her
team-leading third assist of the year.
St. Martin would end the game with another score, this one
coming off of a deflected save with one minute remaining in the
contest.
The Skyhawks travel to American International for another NE-10
showdown on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
