Skyhawks Beat Bloomfield
1-0
Boxscore
Easton, Mass. - A first half
goal by Andrew McMath (Weatogue, Conn.) and strong
defensive play set the tone as the Skyhawks ended a three game
winless streak with a 1-0 victory over Bloomfield on Monday.
Stonehill began the game on the defensive, allowing the Deacons
three corner kicks in the first 20 minutes before settling
down.
McMath gave the Skyhawks the only goal they would need as he
trapped a ball bouncing on the left side of the six and fired it
home for his first collegiate goal.
Following the score, Stonehill continued to put pressure on
Bloomfield for the remainder of the half, but would come up
empty.
In the second the Skyhawks defense of Ben Irzyk
(Wakefield, R.I.), Ryan Hess (Springfield, Mass.),
Christopher Agan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and
Kevin Moroney (Medway, Mass.) repeatedly thwarted
Deacon runs and allowed only two shots on keeper Brian
Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.).
Stonehill meanwhile had six second half shots, including a
McMath rip that went just over the crossbar in the 75th
minute.
Sophomore Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn.)
started in goal for the Skyhawks and registered a save and the win,
while Guerrini played the second 45 and had two saves.
With the win Stonehill improves to 4-6-2 on the season.
The Skyhawks return to the field when they travel to take on
Southern Connecticut St. on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
