Golden Knights Ground Skyhawks 4-0
Boxscore
Easton, Mass.
- The Skyhawks played the Golden Knights tough,
but conference leader St. Rose capitalized on their opportunities
in front of the net on their way to a 4-0 on Saturday at Skyhawk
Field.
The Skyhawks played even with the Golden Knights through the
first 15 minutes, but St. Rose opened up a lead when Jazmine Farrel
took possession of the ball at midfield and then dished it to Coco
Ebersole who dribbled it by a defender before ripping a shot past
Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead.
Stonehill wasn't fazed and continued to pressure the Golden
Knights the remainder of the first half, nearly scoring in the last
five minutes when freshman Kelsey Mahoney
(Rehoboth, Mass.) tapped a cross just wide of the net from inside
the six.
In the second half, the Skyhawks put pressure on keeper Jillian
Lyons but were unable to put a ball in net.
St. Rose meanwhile, doubled their lead at the 54:44 mark as Farrel
scored on a one timer from right inside the 18.
In the last five minutes of regulation the Golden Knights added
goals from Lizzie Shegda and Gianna D'Errico to give St. Rose the
4-0 victory.
Hickey had six saves in net for the Skyhawks who had seven shots
in the second half and 11 in the game.
The loss drops Stonehill to 4-10-1 overall and 3-7-1 in
conference play.
The Skyhawks return to action when they travel to New Haven on
Tuesday, with the match slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
