Chargers Drop Skyhawks 2-1
Boxscore
New Haven, Conn. - Freshman
Kelsey Mahoney (Rehoboth, Mass.) scored her first
goal of the year but it wasn't enough as the Skyhawks fell to New
Haven 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Mahoney got the scoring started just 17 minutes into the contest
when she took a ball from Erin Bazinet (Charlton,
Mass.) and fired it from just inside the 18 for her first
collegiate score
Stonehill's lead wouldn't last however, as New Haven knotted the
game up at one on a Selina Moylan direct kick from just outside the
box less than two minutes later.
The half wouldn end in a 1-1 tie. Ten minutes into the
second period the Chargers got their second goal of the afternoon
when Emily Buckley-Matura put a Moylan cross past freshman keeper
Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass.).
The Skyhawks continued to pressure New Haven firing five second
half shots but were unable to get a ball past goalie Kim Taylor,
who had six saves on the day.
Hickey had five saves for Stonehill who drops to 4-11-1 overall
and 3-8-1 in NE-10 play.
The Skyhawks return to action when they host Le Moyne on
Saturday at noon.
