Skyhawks Fall to St. Michael's 2-1
Boxscore
Easton, Mass.
- It was as tale of two halves, as a Stonehill
controlled play in the first period but St. Michael's came back in
the second, scoring two second half goals for a 2-1 win over the
Skyhawks on Saturday.
Stonehill's offense put pressure on the Purple Knights from the
onset and was rewarded in the 21st minute when Thomas
Hernon (Mansfield, Mass.) scored his first goal of the
season on a shot from the middle of the six.
The rest of the half saw the Skyhawks defense hold St. Michael's
to one shot on goal, a free kick with just under nine minutes
remaining in the period, while Stonehill had four shots on keeper
Jason Burnett.
In the second half it was the Purple Knights who were the
aggressor, as they tied the game just seven minutes into the period
on a Yoshikazu Ishii free kick from outside the 18.
St. Michael's continued their aggressive play and were rewarded
in the 70th minute when Tim Warren headed in a Ryan Horan header
for a 2-1 lead.
The Skyhawks mounted a late offensive, with four corner kicks
between the 84th and 85th minutes, but came up empty as they were
held to just two second half shots.
Keeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn.) had
five saves in net for the Skyhawks who drop to 3-5-1 overall and
1-5 in NE-10 play.
Stonehill returns to action when they play host Bentley on
October 8 at 4:00 pm.
