Skyhawks and Falcons Play To Scoreless Draw
Boxscore
Easton, Mass.
- Great goaltending and missed opportunities were
the story as the Skyhawks and the Bentley Falcons played to a 0-0
tie in two overtimes on Wednesday at Skyhawk field.
Both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half, with
Stonehill's best one coming in the first minutes.
Dave Pohl (Bridgewater, Mass.) broke past the
Bentley defense, but keeper Michael Nikiforov rushed Pohl and
forced him to take a bad shot that went wide.
The Falcons had a great scoring opportunity with just under
three minutes remaining in the half, as junior Brian
Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) made a diving stop on a
Chris Lipsett shot from the right side of the six to force a corner
kick.
In the second half the Skhawks went on the offensive, as they
recorded 12 shots in the period and had two corner kicks, but were
unable to score.
Conversely, Bentley had just two shots in the period and lost
senior Jon Marchetti in the 66th minute to a red card, one of 52
fouls between the two squads.
The first overtime period saw Pohl take two shots in a one
minute span but Nikiforov made the save on both.
Bentley had their opportunities in the second overtime period
with Guerrini denying the Falcons each time.
Nikiforov had 14 saves in net for Bentley, while Guerrini
recorded 10 stops for the Skyhawks.
With the tie, Stonehill's record moves to 3-5-2 on the season
and 1-5-2 in conference play.
The Skyhawks return to action when they host St. Anselm on
Saturday at 1:00 pm.
