Skyhawks Put Up A Fight But Corsairs Prevail
2-0
Boxscore:
New Bedford, Mass.
- The Skyhawks outshot UMass Dartmouth in the
first period but were unable to convert and the Corsairs took
advantage, scoring a goal in the second and an empty netter in the
third for the 2-0 win at Stephan Hetland Memorial Ice Arena
Wednesday evening.
Looking to improve on last year's 7-1 loss to UMass Dartmouth,
Stonehill came out firing against the three-time defending ECAC
Northeast champion Corsairs in the first.
The Skyhawks put 11 shots on net in the period but were unable
to get the puck past Jon Dryjowicz-Burek. The Stonehill
defense meanwhile allowed UMass Dartmouth just four shots on
sophomore goaltender Mike Manna (Framingham,
Mass.).
The Corsairs responded in the second, as they took the first 13
shots of the period. They finally broke through on their
21st shot of the second, when Chris Shore re-directed
home a pass from forward Matt Serino with just under three minutes
remaining.
Stonehill held strong throughout the rest of the period and into
the third. However, they were unable to get on the board and
pulled Manna late in the period to give them an extra skater.
UMass Dartmouth however, took advantage and scored an empty net
goal with only 48 seconds remaining in the contest to ice the game
at 2-0 and give the Corsairs their third win of the season.
Manna had 34 saves in net for the Skyhawks, who drop to 0-2 on
the season. Stonehill returns to action when they travel to
take on Nichols on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
