Easton Mass.
- A hard fought second half couldn't save the
Skyhawks from their first half woes as they fell to the AIC Yellow
Jackets 3-1.
Stonehill started out the game on the offensive, controlling the
ball on the Yellow Jackets half, managing three corner kicks and
two shots on AIC goal keeper Danielle Hodecker in the first 20
minutes.
In spite of the pressure, it was the Yellow Jackets who stung
first, as junior Morgan Mastronardi blasted a Colleen Hilliker pass
into the back of the net at the 22:00. The Yellow Jackets
added to their lead just a minute later, with sophomore Sarah
Boornazian taking a pass from freshman Nikki Mulberg and shooting
past the outstrectched arms of freshman Sarah
Hickey (Lee, Mass.).
The second half saw the Skyhawks take seven shots on goal and
three corners in first 20 minutes, with Hodecker denying them
all. Stonehill continued to pressure the Yellow Jackets
throughout the half and would finally be rewarded at the 82:30 mark
when freshman Alex Murphy (Weymouth, Mass.) took a
feed from Catherine Lammert (Glenburn, Maine) and
scored to make it a 2-1 game.
AIC responded as Cassie Ashell put the game out of reach a
minute later with a shot from outside the 18 that found its way to
the back of the net to make the score 3-1.
Hickey had two saves in net for the Skyhawks, who out shot the
Yellow Jackets 17-9 and had more 13 corners than the
visitors.
The win lifts the Yellow Jackets to 4-0-1 while the loss drops
Stonehill to 1-2-1. Stonehill returns to action on Saturday,
September 13 when they take on Assumption at Skyhawk field at 1:00
pm.
