New Haven, Conn. - Junior A.J.
Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) scored 12 of his
game-high 16 points in the first half, helping the Skyhawks snap a
two-game losing streak and post a convincing 70-50 win over host
Southern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at Moore Fieldhouse.
The 70 points Stonehill scored are the most it has put on the
board in five games and improves the Skyhawks record to 12-0 this
season when they score 70 or more points.
In collecting its 18th win of the season, Stonehill raced out to
a 25-9 lead over the Owls courtesy of 10-0 run which featured seven
straight from Rudowitz.
With the score 29-13 a little more than halfway through the
first half, Southern Connecticut ran off eight unanswered to cut
the Stonehill lead in half, but five straight points from
Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) helped the Skyhawks
stem the tide and take a 39-27 lead into halftime.
The Owls stayed within striking distance with the help of their
work on the glass, outscoring Stonehill 16-5 in second chance
points.
The lead grew to as many as 23 following another Skyhawk scoring
spree - this one an 8-0 run highlighted by a three-point play from
sophomore Daniel Heppert (Richmond, Va.).
Stonehill shot 49 percent from the floor while holding the Owls
to just 36 percent and didn't allow any Southern Connecticut player
to reach double figures.
Rudowitz, who added five rebounds and four steals, played only
22 minutes, while Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.)
added 12 points, three points and three assists and Mike
Kernan (Medford, N.J.) chipped in with 10 points and six
rebounds.
