Skyhawks Dominate Ravens 5-0
Boxscore
Rindge, N.H. - The Skyhawks had five
different players score, and got a strong performance between
the pipes from Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) as
Stonehill shutout an opponent for the first time in over three
years, taking down the Franklin Pierce Ravens 5-0 in the first
round of the NE-10 Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Stonehill wasted little time in getting on the board in the
first as Angelo Todesca (Westwood, Mass.), scored
the eventual game winner, and his third of the season, just 1:08
into the contest on off a centering feed from the left corner by
freshman Pat Greene (Weymouth, Mass.).
The Skyhawks added to their lead at the 14:57 mark of the first
on Frank Amato's (West Springfield, Mass.) sixth
goal of the season. Stonehill would up their lead to three
before the end of the period on an Andrew Diozzi
(Belmont, Mass.) score.
Stonehill held Franklin Pierce at bay again in the second,
allowing just nine shots on net after the Ravens had only four
shots in the first. The Skyhawks upped the margin to four
with just over five minutes remaining in the period, as
Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) fired home his
fifth of the season.
Manna held strong in net in the third, stopping all 11 Franklin
Pierce shots, while senior defensemen James
Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) ended the Stonehill
scoring with just under three minutes left in the game. Manna
finished with 24 saves in the shutout victory.
Florentino, the NE-10's leading scorer among defensemen, also
added an assist to bring his season total in points to 21.
Diozzi also had a goal and an assist while junior Pete
Roundy (Simsbury, Conn.) and Greene added two assists
apiece.
With the win the Skyhawks advance to the NE-10 semifinals for
the fourth straight season and improve to 9-12-1 overall.
They return to action on Wednesday when they travel to take on the
number one seed St. Anselm at 7:00 p.m.
