MANCHESTER, N.H. (September
16, 2009) - Stonehill College rallied from a goal down to
claim a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Southern New Hampshire
University in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at
Larkin Field tonight.
Junior Molly Mattern's
(Preston, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) first career goal
proved big as it lifted Stonehill to the come-from-behind win.
Mattern's goal was set up when a long Stonehill pass from midfield
fell at the top of the 18. Southern New Hampshire goalkeeper
Stef Young (Natick, Mass./Marian)
came out to play the ball and collided with a Skyhawk as well as a
Penmen defender, leaving a free ball in the top left corner of the
penalty area. Mattern collected the loose ball and fired into the
open net, finding the far right post with 3:02 left in the second
of two overtime sessions.
Junior Alexandra Murphy netted the equalizing goal to force
overtime midway through the second half.

(Lee, Mass./Lee) made four saves in goal for Stonehill.
Young finished with three stops in net for SNHU, who finished with
a 19-14 advantage in shots for the match.

(Bristol, R.I./Mount Hope) scored for Southern New
Hampshire when she took a pass from classmate Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, R.I./Mount Hope) and fired past Hickey
from ten yards out in the 23rd minute.
