BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (September 16, 2009)
- The University of Bridgeport swept Stonehill College,
3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 28-26) in non-conference volleyball action at
Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium tonight.
Junior Terry Masava
(Nairobi, Kenya) posted a double-double effort with a
match-high 18 kills to go with 11 digs and two blocks, hitting .444
with just two attack errors on the night. Grad student Emma
Ariyo (Kampala, Uganda) added 12 kills with no errors on
19 total attacks for a .632 percentage and four block assists.
Senior Milica Micovic
(Belgrade, Serbia) dished out 36 assists for the Purple
Knights to go with 14 digs, while senior J.J. Edwards
(Georgetown, Ontario) chipped in with 14 digs.
Sophomore Laura Huselton
(Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led Stonehill with a
double-double effort of 13 kills and ten digs while adding two
block assists. Junior Erin Johnson (Centerville,
Mass./Barnstable) added 13 kills with just one hitting
error on 26 total attacks for a .462 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Andrea Wirth
(Mesa, Ariz./St. Mary's) collected 31 assists, ten digs
and two service aces, while classmate Justine Thompson
(Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) posted a match-high 20
digs and served up five aces.
Stonehill (3-4, 0-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Saturday when it visits Caldwell College for a
tri-match. The Skyhawks will face host Caldwell at 11 a.m., before
battling Molloy College for the second time in a week at 1 p.m.
Stonehill opens its home schedule on Saturday, September 26, when
it hosts Saint Anselm College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup
at 1 p.m. Bridgeport (9-2, 0-0 ECC) visits Merrimack College on
Friday at 4 p.m.
