Stonehill Takes Two at Caldwell

Skyhawks open with five-set
win over host Caldwell, dispatch Molloy in four
CALDWELL, N.J. (September
19, 2009) - Stonehill College posted a pair of wins today
in a volleyball tri-match hosted by Caldwell College. The Skyhawks
opened with a 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 16-25, 25-16, 15-9) triumph over
host Caldwell, before defeating Molloy College for the second time
in a week, 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-13, 25-23).

Stonehill won the last two sets to
come away with the hard fought victory in the opening match of the
day. The Skyhawks took advantage of 44 total errors by Caldwell (24
attack, 13 serving, four reception and three ball handling).
Sophomore Laura Huselton
(Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led Stonehill with 18 kills,
while committing just three errors on 42 total attacks for a .357
hitting percentage. She also added a team-high matching 16 digs.
Junior setter Andrea Wirth (Mesa, Ariz./St.
Mary's) totaled 40 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore
Michelle Thornhill (Canyon Lake, Calif./Temescal
Canyon) collected 16 digs. Junior Laura Noonan
(Hampstead, N.H./Bishop Guertin) chipped in with nine
kills and two blocks.
Sophomore Titilola Alao
(Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) led Caldwell with a match-high
21 kills, while posting just four errors on 39 total attacks for a
.436 hitting percentage. She also helped defensively with six
blocks. Sophomore setter Lauren Roth (Findlay,
Ohio/Findlay) added 43 assists, five kills and 14
digs.
Stonehill 3, Molloy 1 (Boxscore)
Stonehill took the final two sets
of this match to post its second win in a week against Molloy. The
Skyhawks racked up 11 service aces in the victory.
Huselton totaled ten kills, a
team-best five service aces and 16 digs in the win for Stonehill.
Noonan posted a match-high 15 kills while committing only one error
on 22 total attacks for a sizzling .636 hitting percentage, while
adding three blocks. Wirth added 39 assists and six digs, while
junior Justine Thompson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop
Guertin) chipped in with 15 digs and four aces. Junior
Anna Berthiaume (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth)
weighed in with eight kills and only one error on 23 attacks for a
.304 hitting percentage and four block assists for the Skyhawks.
Junior Arielle Wichard
(Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore JFK) led Molloy with 11 kills, two
service aces and three digs. Sophomore Angelica Nicalek
(Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) added 11 kills and nine
digs, while freshman Jennifer Koelbel (West Hempstead,
N.Y./West Hempstead) notched 37 assists and 11 digs.
Stonehill (5-4, 0-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Wednesday when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference
schedule at Merrimack College at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks first home
match is next Saturday against Saint Anselm College at Merkert
Gymnasium at 1 p.m.
