EASTON, Mass. (September 5,
2009) - Stonehill College is perfect through four matches
for the first time in 21 years after posting a 2-0 victory over
Nyack College in non-conference men's soccer action at Skyhawk
Field this afternoon.
Stonehill last won its first four
matches of the season under Ernie Branco in 1988. Second year head
coach Jim Reddish got goals in each half from
senior co-captain Shaun Keeley (Woburn,
Mass./Woburn) and classmate Martin Earley (Basel,
Switzerland/Hampden (Maine) Academy), while junior
Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free
Academy) made two saves to preserve his second shutout of
the season (fourth career).
Junior goalkeeper Adrian
Ibanez (Toronto, Ontario) finished with six stops for
Nyack as Stonehill posted a 14-2 advantage in shots for the match.
Keeley put Stonehill in front 13:16
into the contest with a long run down the left side before chipping
a shot over a charging Ibanez for his third goal of the season.
Earley doubled the Skyhawks lead 2:15 into the second half when he
headed a deflection off a Nyack defender into the goal for his
first goal of the year.
Stonehill (4-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10)
returns to action on Wednesday when it visits American
International College to open its Northeast-10 Conference schedule
at 4 p.m. Please note that the start time of this match has been
changed from the schedule released earlier this season. The
Skyhawks return home next Saturday to host The College of Saint
Rose at 1 p.m. Nyack (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CACC) visits Dowling College on
Wednesday at 7 p.m.
