Skyhawks score late to force extra time, but Post
rallies
EASTON, Mass. (October 12, 2010) –
Stonehill College was edged 2-1 by Post University in overtime in
non-conference men’s soccer action on Tuesday.
Junior Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon
Regional) scored the tying goal late in the second half to
get Stonehill to overtime, but Post had the last word in the 96th
minute on the second of two goals by sophomore Eltany Morais (Cape
Verde Islands/Bullard Havens High School). Sophomores Chris
Manke (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Eric Schott
(Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) split time in the
net for Stonehill, Manke making three saves and Schott one.
Sophomore Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica/Munro College) made
two saves for Post.
The Eagles got underway in the seventh minute with Morais’
first goal, set up at close range by a flick from freshman Moussa
Cisse (Monrovia, Liberia/Riverside Academy), but Manke locked them
out for the rest of the first half with three saves to keep the
game close.
After opening the second half with heavier offensive pressure in
the Post end, the Skyhawks broke through in the 74th minute when
senior Todd Shigo (Naples,
Maine/Lake Region) found White at the left side of the
box, and White drew the goalkeeper far enough out of the net to put
a shot back past him to the right. Schott held off Post at the
other end, turning back the Eagles’ only second-half attempt
to send the game to extra time.
Post won it in the 96th minute as a cross from the deep left
corner got through to the front of the net, where Morais knocked it
in for his second goal of the day.
