Nelson scores both Skyhawk

MANCHESTER, N.H. (October
23, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in this
week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA)
Division II poll, ran its win streak to eight games with a 2-1
overtime victory at Saint Anselm College at South Athletic Field
this afternoon.
Junior forward Kathryn
Nelson (Shrewsbury,
Mass./Shrewsbury) scored both Stonehill goals, including
the gamewinner 10:05 into overtime. Senior Lindsey Pinkham
(Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area) and junior Laura Menke
(Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) dished assists for
the Skyhawks.
Senior Courtney Osier
(South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) preserved the win
with two saves, while sophomore Megan Sullivan (Braintree,
Mass./Thayer Academy) stopped 17 shots in the cage for
Saint Anselm. Stonehill finished with a 31-7 advantage in shots for
the game, 19-3 on goal, and a 12-2 break on penalty corners.
Sophomore Kristina Katsikis
(Hanover, Mass./Hanover) scored the lone goal for Saint
Anselm.
Nelson opened the scoring with 6:28
to play in the first half when she took a pass from Menke to send
Stonehill into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Katsikis leveled the
contest 12:09 into the second half off a feed from senior
Sara Griffin (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton) for her third
goal of the season.
Nelson's team-leading
15th goal of the year came just after the 80-minute
mark, assisted by Pinkham, marking her Northeast-10 leading sixth
game winning goal of the season.
Stonehill (11-4, 7-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Wednesday for a first-place showdown with No. 2-ranked
University of Massachusetts Lowell at W.B Mason Stadium on Senior
Night at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm (2-10, 2-4 NE-10) visits American
International College next Saturday at noon.
